The birth of my novels and characters

It’s curious to read comments about what I write from people I’ve never met. I am aware that unanimity does not exist, and realising that I am managing to create storms in the minds of readers, I will answer a recurring question:

-How do you create your novels and your characters?

Sitting in front of my laptop, locked up somewhere, just like everyone else, right? No! For me, that’s not how it works.

My novels spring from my abstract thinking, from what I could gather in my consciousness and the intention to say something.

On the other hand, my characters are born from people I see on the streets, without appointments. After imprisoning them in the fields of my memory, they tell me their stories, age, how they dress, and, finally, what they want me to write about them.

I write planting seeds in the fields of my subconsciousness, the characters germinate in the form of stories, and my job is to decide what will be the beginning, the middle, and the end.

Writing is just the work of my memories, of what I find in my abstract thought and the blank sheets of my mind.

The answer to the many questions in my message box:

-I write walking, as Homo sapiens did 300,000 years ago, leaving memories dyed with the ink of my pen along the way.

  1. Great to know about your process, Eduardo. For me, as a writer, I try to take my ideas from everything around me, since the closest people to the ones that I barely had a conversation, kind of similar to your process. I think it’s fascinating how those characters, even though inspired by real people, can follow their own inner nature, as if they had real lives as well. Sometimes, I feel like I’m not even creating a story, but telling one that these characters are whispering to me in secret. It’s a strange feeling, but an interesting one.

Anyways, keep writing and keep on going. You’re making a difference. One thing that I always try to live by with my books is the idea that they can be the difference maker in someone’s life. Books can be a real light in a loneliness life. We are not only telling stories, we are connecting lives, and we are inspiring other people to be creative. That’s real magic.

    Best wishes.

  2. Eduardo, your way to choose the characters is great and interesting. Please, keep doing what your doing because I can easily go inside the story .
    Congratulations! Thank you!

  3. Eduardo Periotto is not only a conscious-character creator but also an author, who is conscious of his mission as a writer. He knows what he wants to deliver to the reader in terms of truth and wisdom that he collects along the way. His characters are spokespersons of his innermost thoughts and feelings, and are created to inspire, enlighten and share unique humanistic endeavors.

    1. Dear Mr Ortolano!

Man thinks and another book is born, and animating verbs awakens characters who will tell us about their vanities. The author then dreams of glories, even though he knows that his true salary will always be the pleasure of his creation.

I am honoured to read your thoughts, as you epitomized exactly the “Emotional North” I seek when I write.

Thank you so much and know that his words increased my faith.
